Thunder Boy, Jr. by Sherman Alexie (Author), Yuyi Morales (Illustrator), Published by Little Brown and Company (May 2016) Age Range: 4-8 years.

Thunder Boy, Jr. is about a boy who wants his own name but he’s a Jr., after his father. He feels small when called Little Thunder since his father is known as Big Thunder. He uses different experiences to come up with ideas for a new name.  He loves his dad but…he doesn’t want to share the same name and doesn’t know what to do about it. Then his dad gives him a new name so together they will be both heard and seen across the sky!

Hammer and Nails, by Josh Bledsoe (Author), Jessica Warrick (Illustrator), Published by Flashlight Press (April 2016) Age Range: 5-7 years.

Hammer and Nails is about a little girl whose day is ruined when her play date plans fall through. But then dad comes to the rescue with a plan of his own. Like his daughter, the father has a list of things he’d like to do so they agree to take turns checking things off each other’s list. A fun read that shows a daddy daughter day can be as fun as a play date with your best friend.
